On of the other main problem is the firmware. Firmware is a bunch of codes called modules written on the drive's platter and also on the PCB. when drive powers up it match firmware on the platter and on the PCB, if matches, it get ready, if modules are bad then drive will spin up may or may not recognize in the BIOS, but will no read. almost 40% of all laptop hard drive failure is because of firmware corruption on most of the desktop and laptop drives.
